I served aboard the Currituck from Sept. 54 to June 57.I was dischared from her on 21 June 1957. I was a ShipsServi ceMan third- SH3.My son tells me the Navy no longer has that rating.Loo king back, the memories I have of my time abord her are something I will always remember. I look at my 1956 cruise book often and it seems like only yesterday that I was in the USN.

My father, James Alba served on the USS Currituck between 1952-56 according to my mother. I see a James A. Alba listed and I think that is him, however his middle initial is "M" . My dad passed away in 1986 at 51 years of age, but I would love to hear from anyone who may have known him during his Navy years. He went on to serve aboard the USS Intrepid. When he passed away I was in the Navy, aboard the USS John A. Moore and then on to the USS Jarrett. Thanks and GO NAVY!!!

My dad, Harry (Frank) Getchell, was a radioman on the Currituck during it shakedown cruise in the Carribean during the Korean War. He passed away last July. You folks who help make this associatio n the success it is, should know that his receipt of the newsletter and reading about his fellow shipmates was one of the highlights of his later days. On behalf of my dad, thank you.

Thanks Nathan and Steve for your exhaustive efforts along with those that have submitted photos and info. When I look back, those were the best 2 years I spent in the Navy. Does anybody remember MILLER, MALCOLM G. EM3 E 1960-64 ? He went by Gene. Sad to report that fellow Signalmen Huff and Flores have passed away.

My father was an original crew member in 1944. He was 18 years old and leaving home in Philadelph ia, PA. He always told me of leaving on a brand new ship from the Phila. Navy Yard, the Currituck; continuing through the Panama Canal with a South Pacific destinatio n. He said he was sea sick for the first two weeks. But was never sea sick again after that. H e died 4/26/2008 at age 82. He never forgot this first WW II experience !

The Currituck was my first duty station from November '66 until her decomissio n. I started in 1st Division and later moved to OI Division as a Radarman striker. I still have many memories of Cam Rahn, White Beach and all of our other ports of call.
